An Incredible 4 hour Big Game Fishing Trip

We had a delightful young couple join us for a half day Big Game Fishing trip.  Having only every caught Pike before  this  could be a very exciting day for them.  We met them for coffee and then headed  down the boat for a safety briefing before heading out of the harbour.  We explained to them that in 4 hours there is always a chance but its going to be a lucky trip for them should they hook up.

Well what a lucky trip these guys had!!!!

On our way out  they asked us what the chances would be of seeing any other wildlife and we told them how we usually see dolphin around the boat at some point durning the day.  Here goes the story ……..  we left the marina and within 10 minutes the lures were out and swimming well.  10 minutes later there was an enormous explosion out the back ….. a Blue Marlin of around 800lb blasted at one of the lures and away it went.  Reel screaming!!

3 minutes later the marlin jumps in  an amazing display and unfortunately shook the hook.  Massive excitement for  all aboard.

So we all calm down reset the lures and start fishing again.  Suddenly the boat was surrounded by dolphin and lots of them.  There must have been 2 or 3 thousand of them with lots of young ones jumping and playing all around the boat.  They stayed with us for over half an hour and when they left we were then joined by a pair of Sperm Whales and several turtles.  I started to wonder was this a sea safari or a fishing trip.

We are all having a really good time and its time to head back to the marina, we have about 20 mins left of the trip and BANG!!!  Blue Marlin smashes one of the lures.  Fish On!!

Fish screams off and almost empties the spool but lines are in and we start backing down on the fish.  This was a little bigger than his Pike. Reel Reel Reel was being shouted and my God did our angler do well he worked so hard and gained back over half the line with the help of Captain Neil at the helm.  We got the fish to the boat in around 40 minutes and a fine fish of 550lb finished the day of nicely.

The fish was tired from the fight but crew spent yet another 35 minutes swimming the fish and recovering her so that she swam away safely and strongly
